Audrey Terras

Audrey Anne Terras ( born Bowdoin, born October 9, 1942 in Washington DC) is an American mathematician, dedicated to harmonic analysis on symmetric spaces and graphs, automorphic functions, number theory, geometric analysis ( Selberg trace formula, spectra of Laplaceoperatoren ) and quantum chaos busy.

Life and work

Audrey Terras studied at the University of Maryland, College Park (Bachelor 1964), the theory of numbers turned on ( under the influence of lectures by Sigekatu Kuroda ) and in 1970 received his doctorate from Yale University in Tsuneo Tamagawa (A generalization of the Epstein zeta function) after it there in 1966 a master's degree made ​​. In 1972, she was Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Diego, where she is a professor today.

She is a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and served in various committees of the American Mathematical Society ( AMS), including she was editor of the Transactions of the AMS and was in their advice.

Having dealt with the harmonic analysis on symmetric spaces and the eigenvalue spectrum of the Laplacian on different manifolds ( which the trace formula of Atle Selberg and its zeta function is associated, which is also important in studies of quantum chaos ), they also examined the spectra of operators on finite groups and graphs and related to the zeta function of graphs.

2008 was Audrey Terras Noether Lecturer ( Fun with Zeta Functions of Graphs ) and 2000 Falconer Lecturer of the Mathematical Association of America (Finite Quantum chaos). She is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society.
