Geography
The floodplain is a river in the district of Stade in Lower Saxony with a barrel length of 31.5 km. The floodplain rises in Ahrensmoor on the edge of a raised bog in the community Ahlerstedt and flows through the towns of
- Ahrensmoor,
- Ahrenswohlde,
- Klethen,
- Ottendorf,
- Oersdorf,
- Kakerbeck,
- Bargstedt,
- Harsefeld,
- Issendorf and
- Bliedersdorf
Up to Horneburg. Here it flows with the country bettors together, changes from then on their name in Liihe and ends after another 12.7 kilometers into the Elbe.
Flood
In August 2002, leaving a flood, which was caused by prolonged and heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the river, breaking the levees in Horne Castle and called forth there significant property damage. Horne Castle responded to the threat of further flooding with a stronger quay wall in the local interior and a dike rehabilitation.
