Auger de Balben

Fra ' Auger de Balben (also Otogerius, Augerius Balbensis, Rogerus Balben ) ( † 1162 in Jerusalem) was the third Grand Master of the Knights Hospitaller.

After the death of the Grand Master Raymond du Puy Auger was elected as his successor. It probably originated as its predecessor from Provence.

Auger was successful in the Peace of church and state by uniting the church of Palestine and Pope Alexander III. supported against the antipope Victor IV ( Octavian ). After King Baldwin III. Death in 1162 he prevented his diplomatic intervention of a civil war, as his brother Amalric I. ascended the throne.

Under his rule and his two successors, the foundation of the Order in Spain.

He died in 1162 in Jerusalem and was buried there. His successor was Arnaud de Comps.
