Aughinish (County Limerick)

Aughinish (Irish Eachinis, "Horse Island" ) is a former island in the north of Foynes in County Limerick, in Ireland, on the south bank of the Shannon Estuary.

An island of the same name is on the Doorus Peninsula in the north of County Clare in Galway Bay.

Can on the island in the Shannon, at the Mole large ships plants, the aluminum is factory Rusal. Aughinish Alumina Ltd in Askeaton produces alumina by treatment of bauxite ore. Founded in 1983 exported alumina to smelters for processing in aluminum. Aughinish Alumina Ltd is a subsidiary of United Company RUSAL Plc.

An early origin of Duns is evidenced by the excavations at Aughinish Iceland. Here is a late Bronze Age chisel type Dowris was together with a Early Iron Age object found in a Dun. Thus, it is possible that the first Duns were built during the Dowris phase.
