Aughrim, County Cavan

Aughrim ( Eachdhroim Irish ) is a townland in County Cavan in Ireland.

The Wedge tomb of Aughrim ( locally also called " Giants Grave" ) was originally on the southeast slope of Slieve Rushen and was moved to the grounds of " Slieve Russell Hotel" at Ballyconnell in Cavan, near the border with Northern Ireland. Mark on the old site menhirs the situation. The resulting approximately 2000 BC megalithic site was excavated in 1992 by John Canning this context. Wedge tombs (Eng. " wedge tombs ", formerly "wedge -shaped gallery grave" called ) are seamless, mostly unarticulated megalithic monuments of the late Neolithic and early Bronze Age.

The Wedge tomb, consists of a decision taken by curbs round hill with an approximately five-meter long gallery in the center. Access to the gallery is divided by a column. The gables are supported by several right angles to the walls of stones. There are three small built- in cairn stone boxes which were added at a later time.

During the excavations burials and cremations were found in the gallery and in and below the cairn. Some decorated pottery shards derived from grave goods, were also discovered.
