August Bondeson

August Bondeson Leonard ( born February 2, 1854 in Vessigebro, Falkenberg Municipality, † September 23, 1906 in Gothenburg ) was a Swedish writer, folklorist and physician.

Life

Bondesons parents were the shoemakers, saddlers and craftsman Carl Bondeson and Lisa Beata Nygren. After elementary school he attended high school (Swedish: Läroverk ) in Halmstad and Gothenburg. A study at the University of Uppsala, he started in 1876 and completed his formal training with specialization skin diseases in 1884 as the candidate and in 1889 as Licentiate in Medicine from. Then he settled as a practicing physician in Gothenburg.

Bondesons father, who was known for his good memory and his narrative art, aroused his interest in writing activities. About half of the stories from Halländska Sagor ( German: Tales from Halland ) come from the Father. During his relatively short life Bondeson was very productive. His first book appeared already in 1875, shortly before he began his studies. Parallel to studying and working as a doctor, he continued his literary work and in addition 22 books published a large number of short stories called Christmas in newspapers (Swedish: Jultidningar ). His greatest success was achieved with the Bondeson published in two parts novel Skollärare John Chronschoughs memoarer ( German: School teacher John Chronschoughs memories ), which deals with a smug public school teacher. In addition, he also wrote a number of songs and plays.

As a folklorist he documented the culture of the rural population and portrayed with great realism whose life in the late 19th century. He traveled through Halland, Småland, Värmland, Hälsingland and Uppland to collect items, folk songs and stories. With humorous stories such as Allmogeberättelser and Historiegubbar på Dal, he created a large and loyal audience.

August Bondeson died in 1906 unmarried in Gothenburg and was buried in the church cemetery in Vessige. There was a memorial of granite stone with portrait medallion, designed by architect Carl Bergsten, situated.
