August Ferdinand Anacker

August Ferdinand Anacker ( born October 17, 1790 in Freiberg, † August 21, 1854 ) was a German composer.

Life

August Ferdinand Anacker, 10th child of a shoemaker in Freiberg, attended the local high school and began studying in 1813 in Leipzig, where he was taught among others by Johann Gottfried layer and Friedrich Schneider. In 1816 he became a member of the Leipzig Apollo Masonic Lodge. Anacker, who earned his master's degree, lived as a singer, pianist and music teacher in Leipzig until he was hired in 1821 as cantor and music director in his native town. In Freiberg he was both cathedral and town cantor as well as high school and seminary teacher. He founded in 1823 the Academy of Music, reorganized the mountain bands and built a multi-faceted musical life. Anacker limited his musical activities not only at his own music, but after he had met with Ludwig van Beethoven in Vienna, spread widely and his works. He contributed much to the popularization of works of Beethoven in Saxony at. Anacker was in friendly relations with the greatest composers of his time, including Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Reißiger and Wagner. Among his students Franz Brendel and Reinhold Finsterbusch.

Of his many compositions for voice and instruments is particularly the cantata " The miner greeting " wide acceptance. This work has been often referred to as the " Song of Songs " of the mining industry and was one of the most popular choral works of the 19th century. Noteworthy were the 12 parade marches for Russian horns. Furthermore, among the works Anackers " Markgraf Friedrich ", a " patriotic drama with music ", premiered in 1837 in Dresden, several church cantatas and numerous songs with and without accompaniment. Anacker died 1854 in Freiberg and was buried at the local cemetery Donat.
