August Förster

The August Förster GmbH is a German piano manufacturer based in Lobau.

History

The company was founded in 1859 in Lobau, Saxony. After Friedrich August Förster's death in 1897 his son Caesar Rangers took over the management. He founded in 1900 a branch of the company in Georg Walde ( in Bohemia ) This factory was nationalized in 1945 by the Czechoslovak government. The company Petrof produced here during the communist era under the brand name continues to August Förster pianos. From 1972, the East German factory in the VEB wing and Pianobau Lobau went on. Since 1991, the company is back in family ownership. The 40 employees provide annually about 260 instruments in handwork.
