August Kościesza-Żaba

August Kosciesza - Żaba (* 1801, † January 3, 1894 in Smyrna ) was a Polish orientalist, ethnologist and diplomat in the Russian service.

Life

He studied from 1824 to 1828 Oriental Languages ​​in St. Petersburg and worked in the Russian consulates in Jaffa and Smyrna. In the years 1848-1866 he was a Russian Consul in Erzurum.

Kosciesza - Żaba examined the customs of the Kurds and published his findings in the French publication Recueil des notices de la littérature et récits et des tribus you Kourdistan (1861 ). In 1879 he published the first French -Kurdish dictionary.
