August Krönig

August Karl Krönig ( born September 20, 1822 in Schildesche in Bielefeld, † June 5, 1879 in Berlin) was a German chemist and physicist.

Life

After high school he studied for three semesters in 1839 mainly oriental languages ​​in Bonn, then in 1840 to physics, chemistry and mathematics to pass at the University of Berlin, where he also gained his doctorate in 1845 chromate salts. After that, he worked at Cöllnischen secondary school, in 1851 at the Royal Junior High School at Friedrich- Wilhelms -Gymnasium in Berlin. 1864 he was awarded the title of professor, but he had to retire in the same year can be due to illness. In self-publishing, he gave in 1851 the Journal of Physics and Physical Chemistry of foreign countries in complete overviews out, however, that there was only one year. From 1853 he edited the published by the Berlin Physical Society annual publication progress of physics. In 1856 he developed the kinetic theory of gases and was so beside Rudolf Clausius, James Clerk Maxwell and Ludwig Boltzmann a pioneer of statistical mechanics and thermodynamics. His final resting place is located after reburial in a family grave in the West Stahnsdorf.
