August-Wilhelm Scheer

August-Wilhelm Scheer ( born July 27, 1941 in Luebbecke, Westphalia ) is a former Chairman of the Board of IDS Scheer AG and former director of the Institute of computer science at the University of Saarland in Saarbrücken.

Life

Scheer in 1972 received his doctorate at Hamburg University with a thesis on cost and capacity-based replacement policy for stochastically failing production. In 1974 he qualified as a professor, also in Hamburg, with a thesis on the topic of project management.

The focus of his research lies in the information and business process management. As part of his research in 1984 he founded the spin-off of his institute, the IDS Scheer AG and 1996 the IMC. He is the main shareholder and chairman of both companies. He created the scientific basis for the ARIS concept. The fact -based ARIS Toolset is designed and marketed by IDS Scheer.

Scheer was several times a member of the Supervisory Board of SAP AG. In addition, Scheer editor of the journal Information Management & Consulting. From 2007 to 2011 he was President of the Federation Bitkom.

During the Saarland parliament election campaign in 1999, Peter Müller Scheer presented as his preferred candidate for the post of economy minister. Scheer did not take the post after the election victory of the CDU but. Instead he held from late 1999 to 2009, the Office of the Commissioner of the Prime Minister for the task innovation, technology and research.

Scheer is considered as accomplished and respected baritone saxophonist; it occurs with different jazz combos on a regular basis to the public. Scheer promotes culture, especially jazz, and science with the help of established in 2001 August-Wilhelm Scheer Foundation for Science and Art. Since 2001, the Foundation funded a professorship in jazz at the University of Music Saarland.

On 10 November 2006 Scheer was officially emeritus of the University of Saarland. Among his doctoral students are leading German business data such as Jörg Becker, Helmut Krcmar, Peter Loos and Oliver Thomas.
