August Wilhelm Zumpt
August Wilhelm Zumpt ( born December 4, 1815 in Königsberg, † April 22, 1877 in Berlin ) was an ancient scientist who was best known for his work on Latin inscriptions. He was a nephew of Karl Gottlob Zumpt, studied in Berlin and in 1851 professor at the Friedrich -Wilhelms -Gymnasium.
His work on inscriptions (compiled in Commentationes epigraphicae, 1850-1854 ) brought him in connection with the preparation of the corpus Inscriptionum Latinarum in contrast to Theodor Mommsen.
