Auguste Maquet

Auguste Maquet (* September 13, 1813 in Paris, † January 8, 1888 ) was a French writer and librettist.

Auguste Maquet studied at the Lycée Charlemagne, where he was at the age of eighteen years Professor of History. He has written several essays with Gérard de Nerval, who gave his play Soir de carnaval to Alexandre Dumas. This suggested a revision of the piece, which was listed in 1839 under the title Bathilde with success.

Dumas was interested in the productive young writer and won him as an employee for his own novel productions, but always appeared under his name. So Maquet was co-author of well-known works such as The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers and The Man in the Iron Mask.

After the collaboration with Maquet Dumas published since the 1850s also works under his own name. With William Busnach he wrote the libretto for Isidore Legouix 's opera L'Ours et l' amateur de jardins (1869). In 1861 he was honored as an Officer of the Legion of Honour.
