Auguste Pomel

Auguste Nicolas Pomel ( born September 20, 1821 in Issoire, Puy -de- Dôme, † 1898 in Dra -el- Mizan, Algeria) was a French geologist, paleontologist and politician.

Auguste Pomel worked for many years as an engineer in the Algerian mines and became a specialist in North African fossils. He was director of the Service de l' Algérie géologique and professor of geology at the École supérieure des sciences in Algiers. In 1862 he participated in the Kolonialisierungsfeldzug to Ouargla. Pomel was a senator from Oran and 1877 as a diplomat in Tunisia.
