Augustin Dumay

Augustin Dumay (* 1949 in Paris ) is a French violinist and conductor.

Life

Dumay was born into a family of musicians, at the age of 10 he attended the Paris Academy of Music. After receiving the gold medal he took during five years of private lessons, among others, Arthur Grumiaux in Brussels.

At 14, he performed at the Montreux Festival and drew the attention of the present violinist Henryk Szeryng and Joseph Szigeti on to that conveyed it to others. His international career began in 1979 after a concert, conducted by Herbert von Karajan in Paris. Thereafter, he made a brilliant solo career, which made ​​him with the best orchestras and famous conductors occur. He received numerous recording awards and has participated in numerous festivals, including Montreux, Bath, Berlin, Lucerne, Aix en Provence, Leipzig and at the Lincoln Center in New York.

Since September 2003 he has directed the " Royal Chamber Orchestra of Wallonia " (Belgium ), which was founded by Lola Bobesco.

He is also one of the supervisors Professors at the " Chapelle musicale pure Elisabeth" in Brussels. There, young professional musicians are thoroughly prepared for their careers. He is married to Maria João Pires.
