Augustin Kubizek

Augustin Kubizek (* October 15, 1918 in Vienna, † 24 March 2009 ) was an Austrian composer and musicologist.

Life

Augustin Kubizek was the eldest of the three sons of August Kubizek, which also smashing a musical career (see Kubizek ). He was married 27 years with cellist Elli Lewinsky. Their common Gabriele children Huss, Leonhard Kubizek (Pat Leonhard ), Michael Kubizek and Maria Bader- Kubizek practiced all also the music profession and do so partly today. His daughter Isabella from his first marriage became a doctor. His nephew was the musician Wolfgang R. Kubizek.

Augustin Kubizek visited the Stiftsgymnasium Seitenstettengasse and graduated in 1937 from the Diocesan teacher seminar in Linz as an elementary school teacher.

He received his musical training at the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz with Ferdinand Grossmann solo singing, as well as at the Vienna Music Academy with Alfred Uhl in composition and in orchestral conducting with Hans Swarovsky and choral conducting. Courses with Paul Hindemith, Johann Nepomuk David and Herbert von Karajan rounded off his studies.

His professional career began Augustin Kubizek as elementary and secondary school teachers in Upper Austria, where he worked from 1946 to 1954. In 1956 he had a teaching position at the Vienna Academy of Music, before he worked there from 1978 to 1985 as a professor of TONSATZLEHRE and composition.

He also was a member of the Executive Board of the Society of Authors, Composers and Publishers ( copyright society ) and board member of the Austrian Composers' Association.

In practice, he served as founder, manager and conductor of numerous important choirs and ensembles, such as the Vienna contactor choir and worked as a judge at competitions.

Kubizek was not only because of his compositional work, but also for his commitment to music institutions in Austria and his many years of educational activity among the central figures of the Austrian musical life of the second half of the twentieth century.

He was buried on the cemetery wall in Vienna.

As a composer Kubizek was associated particularly vocal music. His extensive body of work includes songs, masses and motets, but also instrumental compositions.
