Augustus Bradford

Augustus Williamson Bradford ( born January 9, 1806 Bel Air, Harford County, Maryland, † March 1, 1881 in Baltimore, Maryland ) was an American politician and 1862-1866 Governor of Maryland.

Early years

Bradford attended the Bel Air Academy and then to 1824, the St. Mary's College in Baltimore. After a subsequent law degree, he was admitted in 1826 as a lawyer. Then he began to work in Bel Air and Baltimore in his new profession.

Political rise

As a member of the Whig Party Augustus Bradford in 1844, one of the electors of Henry Clay in the presidential elections of the year. Between 1845-1851 he was employed by the District Court in Baltimore County. In early 1861 he was a member of a conference in Washington wanted to prevent last-minute unsuccessful the outbreak of the Civil War. Governor of Maryland

Augustus Bradford began his four -year term on January 8, 1862.
