Aujargues

Aujargues is a commune with 842 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Gard in the Languedoc- Roussillon region.

Geography

Aujargues located 13 kilometers northwest of Lunel between the 20 kilometers away Nîmes and the 28 kilometer distant Montpellier. A few kilometers south-west of the border is the Hérault. The municipality is crossed by the streams Ruisseau des Corbières and Ruisseau de Font Gaillarde. The neighboring communities of Aujargues are Souvignargues in the north, and Calvisson Congénies the east and Villevieille the south and west.

Culture and history

Church and cemetery

After the old village church were destroyed during the Wars of Religion, was the construction of a new church was decided in April 1686. The construction work was completed in 1689 and Aujargues received under the name of Saint -Martin his new church. Since 1984, one of these historiques the monument.

Externally, the building has various types, including a classical-style façade. The Castle

The Castle of Aujargues existed since the Middle Ages, where it initially was a fortress. In 1306 it came into the possession of Guillaume de Nogaret, who received it as a gift from Philip IV. The Pont du Curé
