Aukrug

Aukrug is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. The municipality was created on 31 December 1969 by the merger of the previously independent municipalities Bargfeld, Böken, Bünzen, Homfeld and Innien. It derives its name from a field name. The municipal area also includes the two districts Tönsheide and Bucken.

Geography and transport

The municipality is located in the heart of the 380 -acre nature park Aukrug, a recognized resort of fields and meadows, heaths, bogs, ponds and creeks. History

The name Aukrug was originally a field name and comes from the Low German name " in de Aukrögen " and means something like in the curvatures of the floodplain. The exact name for the area around the five villages Innien, Böken, Bünzen, Bargfeld and Homfeld was Nortorfer Aukrug, since there was also a Aukrug in Neumünster and Rendsburg. Postal History

Chronicle of Aukrugs
