Aukštaitija National Park

The National Park Aukštaitija is a national park in northeastern Lithuania in the lakes and forested region of Upper Lithuania. Founded in 1974, it is the oldest national park in the country, dating back to an existing since 1960 botanical and zoological reserve. Initially called the park " national park of the Lithuanian SSR ," in 1991 the name was changed to the present form.

The area is 40 574 ha, of which 15 % of lakes are taken.

The National Park is of enormous importance for tourism.
