Aulestad

Aulestadt is a farm in Follebu in the community Gausdal in the eastern Gaustal in Norway about 18 km north of Lillehammer.

It hosts a museum of literature in honor of Nobel laureate Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, which acquired it in 1874 and there wrote his most famous works. During his lifetime, Bjørnson was the center of literary, cultural and political life in Norway. In 1890 took over Bjørnson's youngest son Erling Bjørnson ( 1868-1959 ), politician of the Peasant Party and the Nasjonal Samling, the property, but there were 1901 back to his father, because he could not manage it. The main building was in 1923 declared a " National Property ", in 1926 it was presented as a museum. After the death of his wife Karoline Bjørnson 1934 Aulestadt was taken over by the state and placed in 1965 under the administration Maihaugens. From 2008 to 2010 the estate was closed. It was restored on the occasion of the 100th year.
