Aulnois-sur-Seille

Aulnois -sur- seille is a commune with 237 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Château- Salins, in the canton of Delme and the Communauté de communes du Kommunalverband Saulnois.

Geography

Aulnois -sur- seille is located southeast of Metz in Saulnois at the seille which opens at Metz in the Moselle. The village lies at an altitude 187-272 meters above sea level, the average height is 200 meters. The municipality covers 5.09 km ² (509 acres ).

History

782 the village was mentioned in documents as Alningas, 1121 as Alnet, 1329 and 1334 as ennoy Anois.

From the 13th century Hospital of the Knights of Malta in Aulnois -sur- seille was located. The Castle of Aulnois -sur- seille belonged to the diocese of Metz in the 14th century, in the 15th century it belonged to the Oriocourt family and towards the end of the 16th century, it came into the possession of the Armoises family. Charles of Armoises had the castle in the 18th century, when the castle, rebuild. Until Aulnois -sur- seille 1726 itself was the seat of a county Mark, it belonged to the Margraviate of Pont- à -Mousson.

1793 received Aulnois -sur- seille (as Aulnois ) in the wake of the French Revolution ( 1789-1799 ) the status of a municipality and in 1801 the right to local self-government. It belonged from 1801 to 1871 to the former department of Meurthe, which was renamed in 1871 in Meurthe -et -Moselle. In 1871 the church was incorporated into the newly created National Rural Alsace-Lorraine by the German Empire due to territorial changes through the course of the German - French War ( 1870-1871 ). The National Rural Alsace-Lorraine existed until the end of World War I (1914-1918) and was subsequently dissolved. Aulnois -sur- seille was at that time in the department of Moselle, this change was also maintained in 1918, when France was awarded Moselle again. Aulnois -sur- seille belonged as French-speaking village to the last 247 municipalities whose name was Germanized on September 2, 1915. The name was changed to " alder " and until 1918 was the official place name.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality is the old coat of arms of Oriocourt family. It is silver with a black middle bar, above the falls, a red lion leopardierender.

Attractions

The former castle Aulnois -sur- seille was built in 1380 and rebuilt in 1726 to a castle. Today, the castle is in possession of an association. It was classified as a monument historique in 1963 ( historical monument ).

The chapel of the Order of Malta is no longer used, its square chancel dates from the 15th century and has an oculus. The nave was built in 1692.
