Aunay-sur-Odon

Aunay -sur -Odon is a commune with 3158 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the department of Calvados in the Basse -Normandie; it belongs to the arrondissement Vire and Canton Aunay -sur -Odon. It is crossed by the River Odon. Neighboring communities of Aunay -sur -Odon are Le Mesnial -au- Grain in the north, Bauquay and Saint- Agnan- le- Malherbe in the northeast, Courvaudon in the east, Bonnemaison the southeast, Roucamps in the south, Ondefontaine the southwest, Saint -Georges- d ' Aunay in the west and Long Villers in the northwest.

History

Aunay -sur -Odon is located at the intersection of roads from Caen to Vire and Bayeux after Falaise. Due to this situation, the city of 12 and 14-15 was. June 1944 ( ie one week after D - Day on 6 June 1944) by Allied bombing completely destroyed. The attacks a quarter of the population was killed. In the years 1947-1951 Aunay was re- created as a planned city.
