Aura (mythology)

Aura (Greek Αὔρα, also Αὔρη Aure ) In Greek mythology, the goddess of the morning breeze.

My myth is preserved in the Dionysiaca of Nonnus of Panopolis where they once another time appears as a daughter of the Titan Lelantos and the nymph Periboea, as the daughter of the goddess Cybele. There she also appears as the mother of Iakchos, which is commonly identified with Dionysus.

It belongs to the older race of gods, the Titans, and is described as a virgin huntress, like Artemis. Yet she is seduced by Dionysus (or raped ) and pregnant with twins. It expires in about madness and attempts to kill their newborn children. But one of the twins, Iakchos can be saved in time of Artemis, which gives him the Eleusinian Bacchae.
