Aurelia Dobre

Aurelia Dobre (today Aurelia Mofid; born November 16, 1972 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian gymnast.

Aurelia Dobre, which was coached by Adrian Goreac, was considered for years as the youngest world champion in their sport before it became known that the age of the Russian Olga Bicherowa was wrong on their first title win in 1981. Dobre won in Rotterdam at the age of 14 years and 352 days, their first of three World Championship medals, in the end, it was the title on the balance beam in the all around and with the relay. There were also bronze medals at the jump and on the ground. In the following years she had always struggled with injuries. At the Olympic Summer Games in Seoul in 1988 they therefore only won a silver medal in the relay. The same result is reached Dobre at the World Cup in 1989 in Stuttgart. Then she stepped back because of various injury problems from competitive sports.

Dobre was considered elegant athlete with a clean technique. In her career she was five times the dream result, a reach " perfect ten". In 1991, she caused quite a stir when she posed naked for the Dutch Playboy and there as well as for a Romanian newspaper gave an interview in which she criticized the methods and conditions in the Romanian gymnastics before the political changes. In 1992 she moved to the USA where she married Boz Mofid, the Iranian ex-husband of Oksana Omeliantschik, and had four children. Dobre now works as a choreographer and dance teacher in the gym her husband in Maryland.
