Aureolus of Aragon

Aureolus († 809 ) was a minister of the Carolingians in the Spanish market in the early 9th century. His name suggests a Roman origin.

The Frankish annals call Aureolus for the year 809 as Count in the " area between Spain and Gaul beyond the Pyrenees " with the jurisdiction over the cities of Huesca and Zaragoza, but which were under Muslim control. He had been well used in or shortly after 806 in the area around Pamplona and Jaca ( Aragón ), when the inhabitants of Pamplona successfully freed himself from the Moorish occupation and were under the protection of the Frankish Empire. Anyway Aureolus had died in the year 809, which had the Moorish Wali of Zaragoza, Yusuf ibn Amrus to an attack on his office area encouraged.

After Aureolus Velasco Velásquez (Pamplona ) and Aznar I. Galíndez ( Aragón ) are named as Earl in his field.
