Auron (ski resort)

Auron is a ski resort in the Alps. It belongs to the municipality of Saint -Étienne -de- Tinée in the Alpes -Maritimes, Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

History

Until the 1930s, the high level of Auron was used as alpine pasture of the town of Saint- Étienne -de- Tinée, which was only accessible via narrow mountain paths. After then emerged in Megève and Sestriere the first winter sports resorts, the General Council of the department decided to build a similar center on the plateau of Auron, which should also support the reconstruction of 1929 largely destroyed by an avalanche village of Saint -Étienne -de- Tinée. 1934, the first skiing competition was held there in 1937 the first ski lift was opened (the third in France).
