Ausculta fili

Ausculta fili or Ausculta filii (Latin: Listen to (my ) son ) is a Papal Bull of Pope Boniface VIII, with whom he 1301 King Philip IV of France and the French bishops subpoenaed on December 5, to a synod in Rome. The Pope suggested in this Bull in a paternal tone, pointing to the "evil" way, which had come upon France, his throne and the Church. He invited Philipp one to repentance and asked him to correct his path.

The papal legate had accused the violation of clerical rights in 1301 to the French king and demanded a share of the Church's tax revenues for the implementation of a crusade. Philip IV was accused more rights abuses, he should have dismissed bishops, new bishops used and have used church funds to public purposes. These accusations led to the accusation of high treason and the arrest of the papal envoy. The reaction was this bull, with the Pope Boniface VIII called for the release and uttered an invitation to Rome.

King Philip IV reacted to the Bull, he left the papal legate free and asked him to leave the country. The original of the bull was destroyed and Pierre Flote wrote the fake " Deum time", the text was much harder and harsher written when the original it was, and the national assembly on 10 April 1302 in Paris presented.

On the, with that bull, to October 30, 1302 invited the Synod took despite massive threats and prohibitions issued by Philip IV, many representatives of the French episcopate part. The aim of the Synod should be the clarification of the relationship between spiritual and secular power. The results were reflected in the bull Unam Sanctam consequent, with it, the papal claim to world domination was most sharply circumscribed.
