Äußere Kanalstraße (KVB)

Metro Station Outer Channel Street is a station of Cologne city railway and lies on the border between the districts of Bickendorf and Ehrenfeld at the intersection Venloerstraße / outer channel street. The station is scheduled served by lines 3 and 4 of the Cologne Transport Authority.

The metro station was opened on 30 May 1992, in the wake of the second construction phase of the subway tunnel under the Venloerstraße. Originally, the station Rochusplatz should be designated as had been planned during construction, remodel the overlying surface between Rochusstraße, Rochus chapel and Bickendorfer swimming pool in a place with amphitheater. Because the Cologne Transport a subway station did not want to name it after a not (yet) existing space, the term Bickendorf was meanwhile talking. Ultimately, the station outer channel street was named and renamed the existing until then stop for line 5 of the same name in Iltisstraße / outer channel street. This station now bears only the name Iltisstraße. A " Rochusplatz " does not exist today.

Like all tunnel stations in the wake of Venloerstraße a hall with a central platform and outboard tracks was also selected here. The platform was created as a raised platform and has a lift to the surface, making the metro station was accessible from the start. The platform has at both ends. Outputs, one to Bickendorf and one by Ehrenfeld There are intermediate levels on both outputs.

The track level is located in a larger hall, which is designed artistically. Particularly striking here are three large sewer pipes of the outer main sewage collector, which runs under the " exterior Kanalstraße " that run horizontally below the ceiling by the metro station. The ducts are decorated in red, blue and yellow and are highlighted by the lighting design by Hans T. v. Malotki and Robin Uber.

Along the route the bus stop into town is located between the track rails a single-track turning system, which is technically inconvenient for coming out of the city trains that terminate at the exterior canal road. This applies to the trains of the line 4 in the evenings and on Sunday mornings. These trains are labeled with the aim Bickendorf, which is found neither in the schedules listed in the route network plans.

On November 12, 2008, a fiery train of Line 3 went into the station towards the city center. The fire was discovered at Akazienweg Metro Station. Due to the thick smoke, there were seven wounded. There were 185 rescue workers in action, the affected car was economic total loss.
