Austin Aztex FC

The Austin Aztex FC is a former American football team from Austin, Texas.

The Aztex were founded in 2008 and played in the 2009 season in the USL First Division, the second highest league in North American football.

In the 2010 season the team in the USL Conference of the USSF Division 2 Professional League played. At the end of the season the entire franchise organization migrated to Orlando, Florida. There, they compete under the name Orlando City SC and play in the USL Professional Division.

History

Owner of the club was the businessman Phil Rawlins. Originally Rawlins comes from England and is on the board of the English football club Stoke City.

There was from the beginning a partnership between the Aztexs and Stoke City. This included the exchange of training information and players. So the British used the club as a training center and so hoped new American talent to discover.

The club appointed Adrian Heath, a former player from Everton, as a coach. This also involved in coaching until resolution of the Aztex in 2010.

On 8 August 2008, the first player of the club was presented. It was the Mexican goalkeeper Miguel Gallardo, who came from the Austin Aztex U23. He was appointed in 2008 to the best goalkeepers in the USL Premier Development League.

The first season in the USL First Division joined the team off with a 10th place. The play-offs could so not be reached. 2010 Austin reached a second place in the USL Conference of the USSF D2 Pro League. In the play-offs but it failed in the quarterfinals against Montreal Impact.

On 25 October 2010 was officially confirmed that the Austin Aztex FC will go into the new franchise Orlando City SC.

Stadium

The home games were played in 2008 at the Nelson Field of Reagan High School and 2009 and 2010 at House Park. The Nelson Field holds 8,800 spectators and is used as a sports venue for the LBJ High School, Anderson High School and John H. Reagan High School. The Park House holds 6,500 spectators.

Austin Aztex U23

Shortly after the announcement that will play the Aztexs in the First Division, the club took over the USL Premier Development League Club Austin Stampede and called him to Austin Aztex U23. This team was the end of 2009 part of the development structure of Aztexs.

Their home games bears from the team at Dragon Stadium on the grounds of Round Rock High School in Round Rock, Texas.

Coach of the team was the German Wolfgang Sühnholz, a former football player of the FC Bayern Munich.
