Austin Toros

The Austin Toros are a team of the NBA Development League, which is located in Austin (Texas ). They play their home matches at the Austin Convention Center ( 3,200 spectators ).

History

Originally called the Columbus River Dragons and was located in Columbus (Georgia ). In the 2004/05 season the River Dragons were able to reach the final. There they lost but with 67:90 against the Asheville Altitude.

2005, the team was relocated and renamed to Austin. The first season in Austin was 2005/06.

Derrick Zimmerman was named in two consecutive seasons to the NBA D -League Defensive Player of the Year (2004/ 05 and 2005/ 06). In addition, Marcus Fizer of the NBA D -League MVP was the season 2005/06.

On 22 February 2007 died unexpectedly head coach Dennis Johnson after a workout with the players of a heart attack. After an interim coach led the Toros, Quin Snyder was hired as the new head coach of the team for the 2007 /08 season.
