Australasian treecreeper

Field Treecreeper ( Climacteris Picumnus )

The Treecreeper ( Climacteridae ) are a family in the order of perching birds ( Passeriformes ). In this family there are two genera and seven species.

The distribution area is located in Australia and New Guinea. There they inhabit forests or wooded areas.

In appearance and behavior of the Treecreeper resemble the tree runners ( Certhiidae ). With their sharp claws on its strong toes they may well run along the trees. The tail is only slightly used as a prop. Browse with its high, pointed forward curved beak for insects in the bark of the trees columns. In the brown to gray colored top feathers color and the white to gray underside plumage color, there are only slight color differences between males and females. The body size is between 16 and 18 centimeters.

When a tree nest cavity is used, in which the female lays two to three eggs.
