The Australian national ice hockey team is currently 32nd in the IIHF World Ranking and played in the World Cup 2013 in the Division II, Group A. This group corresponds to post-2012 structural reforms implemented in about the 4th division in international men's ice hockey. The nickname of the Australian team is Mighty Roos.
History
The team, which originally consisted primarily of immigrants and Australians who lived in North America, recruited now almost exclusively of native Australians who have learned to play in Australia and the ice hockey. The Mighty Roos took the first time at the 1960 Winter Olympics in Squaw Valley in an international tournament. In their first and only Olympic participation Australians met on Czechoslovakia, as well as the hosts and eventual Olympic champion United States. Both games were clearly lost and the team retired with 2:30 goals from the tournament and came in the final accounts to the ninth and last place at the Olympic Winter Games.
