Melbourne Airport

Australian air Express ( AAE) was an Australian air freight company based in Melbourne. It operated an air cargo network within Australia among others with leased aircraft from Qantas, NationalJet and Pel -Air. The main base was at Melbourne Airport.

History

Australian air Express was founded as a joint venture between Qantas (50 %) and the state-owned postal company Australia Post (50%) in early 1992. The operation was beginning on 1 August 1992. Initially used AAE freight capacity on domestic airline flights of Qantas and also offered other companies cargo space in their Boeing 727 on. From September 2006, the B727 was ausgeflottet and replaced by converted to air freighters B737 Qantas subsidiary Express Freighters Australia. The use of the first Boeing 737 began on 24 October 2006.

Flight operations of AAE is very extensive and variable. "Next Flight" uses free freight capacity on Qantas passenger scheduled flights. Cargo, which can reach over night or later, the target is conveyed with machines from Express Freighters Australia, National Jet Systems, and Pel -Air. Due to the carriage of freight by three providers AAE flies under different flight numbers, codes and callsign. The B737 by Express Freighters Australia uses flight numbers, codes and callsign of Qantas, as the ground clearance is in the hands of Qantas / Express Freighters. National Jet Express uses the IATA and ICAO codes XM and XME and the call sign " Jetex ". Pel- Air also uses the IATA Code XM, but has no separate call sign.

On October 2, 2012, Qantas acquired 50% shares of the Australia Post and Australian Air Express integrated into the subsidiary Qantas Freight.
