Australian Antarctic Territory

The Australian Antarctic Territory (English Australian Antarctic Territory ) is an area of 160 ° E to 142 ° E and 136 ° E to 45 ° E in the Antarctic, to which the Commonwealth of Australia since June 13, 1933 claim (Australian Antarctic Territory Acceptance Act 1933) rises.

The narrow piece between 142 ° E to 136 ° E is claimed by France and divides the territory. With the entry into force of the Antarctic Treaty on 23 June 1961, the internationally recognized never claim was initially postponed.

Only since February 13, 1954 Australia is also permanently represented by the Mawson station in Antarctica, since the area is managed by the Australian Antarctic Division (AAD ). Since 1957 stamps will be issued at irregular intervals, which are also valid on the Australian mainland.
