Australian Federal Police

The Australian Federal Police ( AFP) is the Australian Federal Police.

Police in Australia are divided in two stages: in the police forces of the states and the Australian Federal Police. It was founded on October 19 1979, when the Australian Capital Territory Police Force was merged with the Commonwealth Police to AFP at the direction of the Australian Government.

The Australian Federal Police operates throughout the country and is responsible for the enforcement of federal law. These include corporate law, drug trafficking, money laundering, human trafficking, computer crime, organized crime, forced prostitution, serious cases of fraud and terrorism. The AFP is also used for peacekeeping and police missions abroad, such as in East Timor, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
