The Australian Kelpie is one of the FCI (No. 293, Gr. 1 sec 1) Australian recognized breed.

Origin and History

As matriarch of the breed is a descendant of the 1870 brought from England to Australia Collies ( general term for herding dogs in England) called Kelpie. She was very successful in competitions hats, and so her puppies were in great demand. The breed was named after her. It is quite possible that herding dogs of different breeds were bred in the early days. However, the assumption that dingoes were crossed with Collies, is rather unlikely.

Description

The 43-51 cm wide and up to 20 kg Kelpie is descended from black - brown collies. These dogs had haired and mostly erect ears. The Kelpie has short hair with or without undercoat. All colors and badges, which occurred historically with the development, are permitted in the fur. So there is Kelpies with the following colors: Black, Black / Tan, Blue ( from dark to light ), blue / tan, red ( chocolate brown to bright red ), Red / Tan, Fawn (dark to light ), Fawn / Tan and Cream ( golden brown to cream color ). The badges range from dark brown to cream and vary in size. However, most European Australian Kelpies are purely monochromatic. It is quite possible that due to the genetic composition of a black female has brown, black, blue and fawnfarbene puppies in a litter.

Nature

The Kelpie is an avid, yet calm dog of great intelligence and independence. He is alert, but not extremely protective dog. Does he get the necessary employment, he is a good, spirited family dog ​​, however, the need consistent training. He is very people -and child -related. In general, the Kelpie is very friendly with other dogs and does not look for controversy. However, if it is even necessary, the Kelpie can prevail well.

Working Kelpie

An approximately similar-looking variant is the working dog Working Kelpie, a sense the primal Kelpie.
