Australian rules football in Germany

The Australian Football League Germany ( AFLG ) is the highest and only Australian football league in Germany. The participating teams are amateur teams.

The seasons are played during the calendar year. The six participants play a double round with round-trip games. So arise with currently six clubs ten game days. The top two teams advance to the Grand Final, the teams in positions three and four take the third place play- off.

History

The league was of the time the only Australian Football clubs in Germany 1999 - founded - the Frankfurt Redbacks and Munich Kangaroos. In the following years, more teams were added: the 2001 Berlin Crocodiles, 2003, the Hamburg Dockers, 2004, the Rheinland Lions and 2009, the Stuttgart Emus.

Since its first season in 2003 a total of 11 championship titles were awarded. It succeeded four clubs to gain title - the Munich Kangaroos, Rheinland Lions, Frankfurt Redbacks and Hamburg Dockers. Giants are the Munich Kangaroos with five titles.

Regional leagues

In 2010, established himself with the Bavaria -League another, more focused local competition shape of Australian Football in Germany. This form is usually two to four new game teams with players of locally existing AFLG clubs. Some of these teams but also as independent associations organized ( Ludwigsburg Taipans ). Play the participating teams, as in the AFLG, a return series with a final -final match. Played it is usually with the modified 9- a-side rules. Since 2010, founded with the Berlin League ( 2011), the Baden Württemberg Footy League (2011 ) and the Hamburg League ( 2013) three regional leagues.
