The Association of Public and Cooperative Economy of Austria ( VÖWG ) is the Austrian umbrella organization representing the interests of companies and institutions, with the participation of the state or by local authorities and at all facilities that provide in their interests public service in particular those of general interest. This is irrespective of ownership, in the form of PPP. The VÖWG also acts as an Austrian Section of the European Centre of Enterprises with Public Participation (CEEP) in Brussels and the International Research and Information Centre for Public and Cooperative Economics ( IFIG ) in Liège. About this memberships of the Association represents the interests of its members in the bodies and institutions of the European Union and is thus in a position to help shape community legal decisions.

Development

The interest group was founded in 1952 under the name " Association of Austrian Social Economy ". In 1990 it was renamed " Union of Public and Cooperative Economy of Austria".

With the increasing weight of municipal activities and services after years of reconstruction dressed for three decades representatives of the municipal level, the Office of the President. So took about Vienna's city councils Nekula Franz, Fritz Hofmann, and finally President of the Landtag Johann Hatzl that function. On 16 November 2011, the Vienna Business Councillor Renate Brauner has been elected president who became the successor of Christian Oxonitsch in this office.

The function of managing exerted by Heidrun Maier- de Kruijff in personal union with the Association of Municipal Companies of Austria ( VKÖ ). Maier- de Kruijff was previously from 2004 to 2009 Office Manager of MEP Hannes Swoboda in Brussels and Strasbourg.
