Autacoid

As autacoids (from the Greek autos = self and akos = remedy ) different endogenous vasoactive substances are summarized. You can paracrine or autocrine effect and belong to different classes of chemical compounds.

Among the autacoids include vasoactive substances formed in the endothelium and prostaglandins, thromboxanes, leukotrienes and histamine, serotonin, angiotensin II, bradykinin, kallidin, and platelet activating factor.

While some autacoids play an important role in local blood flow regulation, while others act in inflammatory processes and in hemostasis.
