Autechaux

Autechaux is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Autechaux situated on 430 m, 4 km north-east of Baume- les -Dames and 32 km east-northeast of the city of Besançon ( straight line ). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of Doubs and Ognon, on the southern edge of the plateau Les Mondrevaux, at the northern foot of the Framont.

The area of ​​6.59 km ² municipal area includes a portion in the extreme north- western ridges of the Jura. The main part of the area is occupied by a plateau, which is on average 420 meters. It consisted mainly of arable and meadow land, but also shows some of larger forest areas, especially in the Northeast. Is flanked on its southern side of the plateau ridge of Framont, which separates it from the adjacent Doubs Valley and continues to the tune of La Plaine Fin to the east. On the predominantly forested height is 505 m reaches the highest point of Autechaux. In the whole area there are no surface watercourses, because the rainwater seeps into the karst underground. The karst formations in the region is the cave of Trou de la Roche.

History

In the Middle Ages Autechaux belonged to the dominion of Clerval, which was under the suzerainty of the Counts of Montbéliard since the 14th century. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. The previously independent La Vreville in 1806 merged with Autechaux. Since 2001 Autechaux is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays Baumois.

Population

With 397 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Autechaux one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1891 192 persons were still counted ), a striking population growth was recorded since the early 1970s. Since then, the population has nearly tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Autechaux was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. There are also some farms in the old center of the local small business sector. Autechaux today benefits from the nearby motorway connection. Since 1992, the commercial and industrial zone Europolys was created northwest of the village, which is now an area of ​​approximately 15 hectares covered. Here, companies in the plastics industry, precision mechanics and metal work and logistics companies have settled. A further increase in the industrial zone is planned.

The village has good transport links. It lies on the main road D50, which runs from Baume- les -Dames to Villers Exel. The nearest links to the A36 motorway, which runs through the municipality, is located at a distance of about 2 km. Further road links exist with Clerval, Luxiol, Verne and Vergranne.
