Autigny is a municipality in the District de la Sarine ( German: Sarine district) of the Canton of Fribourg in Switzerland. The former German name Ottenach is no longer used today.

Geography

Autigny is located on 684 m above sea level. M., 13 km southwest of the capital of the canton of Fribourg (air line). The village stretches a scenic location on an exposed south-facing slope above the valley of the Glane, in Molassehügelland of Fribourg Mittelland.

The area of ​​6.2 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehöhen in the area of ​​Glânetals. The southern part of the municipality is occupied by the valley of the Glane, which forms up to 400 m wide flat valley floor here. From here south flow the streams Neirigue, Glèbe and Longive. Below the mouth of the latter, the Glane lowers into the molasse and runs to the east of the Bois des Grands Champs in a valley flanked by rocky slopes. From Glânetal the communal land extends north across the slope of Autigny to the heights Bois de Pertet (744 m above sea level. M. ), Sur la Croix Neuve ( 745 m above sea level. M. ) and La Fin ( 760 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Autigny ). In the extreme north, the area extends into the Talniederung of Lentigny. From the municipality surface 1997 7 % was attributable to settlements, 21 % of forest and shrubs, 71% to agriculture and slightly more than 1% was unproductive land.

To Autigny include the hamlets of Le Moulin ( 634 m above sea level. M. ) on the Glane, La Crétause ( 673 m above sea level. M. ) on the southern slope east of the village and Le Saugy (720 m above sea level. M. ) north of the plateau La Fin as well as several individual farms. Neighboring communities of Autigny are Cottens, Farvagny, Le Glèbe, Villorsonnens, Chénens and La Brillaz.

Population

With 710 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Autigny one of the smaller municipalities of the canton of Fribourg. Of the 93.5 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.6 % and 1.3 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Autigny amounted in 1850 to 458 residents in 1900 to 592 inhabitants. After peaking in 1930 with 627 inhabitants, the population grew during the 20th century to 1970 by around 30 % to 439 inhabitants from. Since then, a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Autigny was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. In the 19th century, several mills, an oil mill, a saw mill and a brickyard were operated along the Glânelaufs. Even today, the agriculture, dairy farming and livestock have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available, including one operating in the construction industry and in carpentry. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location also become a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the region of Freiburg.

Traffic

The community is located off the major thoroughfares on a road from Cottens after Vuisternens -en- Ogoz. The nearest links to the motorway A12 ( Bern -Vevey ) is located approximately 7 km from the town center. By Postbus course, which runs from Cottens after Villarsel -le- Marly, Autigny is connected to the network of public transport.

History

The territory of Autigny was settled very early, which could be demonstrated by finds of remains of a fortification from the Bronze Age, as well as wall foundations from the Roman period.

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1068 under the name Altignei. Later, the names Altiniei and Altinie in the 12th century appeared Altiniaco ( 1183 ), Altignie ( 1217 ), Autinie ( 1228 ), Autignie ( 1273), Autignye ( 1285) and Ottignye ( 1717). As German versions besides Ottenach also Aultennachen ( 1555) and Otto Achen (1577 ) have survived. The name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Altinius.

Since the 12th century the noble family of Autigny is mentioned, which was responsible for the village rule. By buying the village came in 1442 under the rule of Freiburg and the Old Landscape ( Neustadtpanner ) has been assigned. Autigny in 1545 ravaged by a fire in the village and 1596 of the plague. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) was one Autigny during the Helvetic first to the district Romont and from 1803 to the district of Freiburg, before it was incorporated in 1848 with the new cantonal constitution in the Sarine district.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Maurice is mentioned since 1228. Its present form was the church in the new construction of 1830-31. In the center some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
