Auto 5000

The Auto 5000 was a subsidiary of Volkswagen AG, which produced the VW Touran and Tiguan at the Wolfsburg plant. It was founded in August 2001 in order to secure employment in the context of the VW tariff model " 5000 times 5000 " at the Wolfsburg plant, rather than to shift production abroad.

The number of employees in the halls 10 ( body ), 9 ( paint ) and 8 (assembly ) and 37a, 34a and 35 of the main plant in Wolfsburg produce the VW Touran, rose to October 2006 to around 4000 employees. In December 2007 4200 persons were employed with Auto 5000.

From November 2002 until beginning of October 2006 a total of 650,000 first generation Touran in Wolfsburg were produced. From 1 January 2009, almost all employees of Auto 5000 GmbH was taken over by Volkswagen AG, thus ending the project.
