Autocorrection

AutoCorrect or AutoText is a writing aid function in computer programs for spelling correction and automatic writing out abbreviations and acronyms.

For example, the manual text entry of " jhb " is the function automatically expanded in " Hostel ", or an incorrect entry of " Fheler " is corrected to " error ". The assignment list to be input and the replacement text can be defined by the user.

  • In word processing, this function is known under the name AutoCorrect. At the beginning AutoText definitions have been created for common typos or known acronyms from other providers; today's office packages contain the function they have been traditionally.
  • System-wide will allow AutoText functions through programs like AutoHotkey, PhraseExpress, AutoIt (Windows), TextExpander (Mac) or AutoKey ( Linux). On the Mac, this functionality is also provided by the operating system since Mac OS X v10.6.
  • One of the very first AutoCorrect programs was Ways for Windows by Hannes Keller.
