Autoliv

Autoliv is a Swedish- American manufacturer of automotive safety systems. The company was founded in 1953 by Lennart Lindblad in the small town Vårgårda in Sweden, since 1968 it is conducted under the name of Autoliv.

The brand name LIV for seat belts stood for Lindblad (car service ) in Vårgårda, but the short form also carries a double meaning, because " Liv " is also the Swedish word for life.

Today's Autoliv Inc. was formed in 1997 through the merger of the leading European manufacturer of automotive safety systems, Autoliv AB, with Morton ASP (Automotive Safety Products ), the leading airbag manufacturer in North America and Asia. Since then, the company has operated in the United States with headquarters in Stockholm.

With this merger, Autoliv became one of the leading system suppliers for occupant protection systems. Today, develops, manufactures and sells automotive security worldwide for all major automotive manufacturers. The product portfolio includes occupant safety systems (seat belts, front, side, knee and head protection airbags, seat structure elements, anti -whiplash seat), driver assistance systems (such as night vision system, lane change assistant ) and active safety systems (such as pre-crash sensors, stereo vision ). The Group has offices on five continents and joint ventures as well as development and test facilities.

The main competitors are the Japanese company Takata and the U.S. company TRW Automotive.
