Autolysis (biology)

With autolysis (Greek αυτόλυσις, " self-dissolution " ) is called the self-dissolution of dead cells in the body by enzymes that are already present in the tissue without the involvement of bacteria or other organisms. This is done by self-digestion by lysosomal enzymes.
