The car salesman is in Germany since 1998, a nationally recognized training occupation by the Vocational Training Act.
In Switzerland, the Federal Diploma car salesman is a development which closes with a higher professional examination.

Germany
Duration of training
The training usually lasts three years and takes place at the training company and vocational school.
Remit
Car sales people are usually trained in car dealerships, but also directly from the manufacturers and importers. During the training of budding car salesman gets to know all the commercial areas of a car dealership, but also basic technical knowledge about the functioning of the vehicle is conveyed to the trainees. The profession of automotive merchant is tailored to the organizational and commercial conditions of the automotive industry, with the car and its market are paramount.

- Office business processes, order taking and processing, data protection
- Accounting, cost accounting, costing
- Planning, procurement, sales, marketing, inventory management
- Customer service, parts and accessories
- Fleet management, vehicle rental
Automotive merchants also act in processes with operational control and supervision of the financial, accounting and human resources management. Switzerland
In Switzerland, the training for Federal Diploma car salesman is a further development of the automotive diagnostician, automotive sales consultant or customer service representative / in the automotive industry ( all with Federal. Fachausweis ) advance or a college degree in automotive technology. The training itself takes 4 semesters part.
Car sales people are positioned as leaders. It is also possible to keep a private business or a branch.
History
The regulations for " master craftsman in the car industry" gained validity on 3 September 1984.
The essentially valid today " Regulations on Higher technical examination for certified auto mechanic " comes from 3 May 1995. Previously known as certified auto mechanic is still to be found.
Then joined on 1 January 2002, the current regulations in force, essentially only the article " title and release " has been modified and thus the title Federal Diploma car salesman has been introduced.
