The Autostrada A21 (Italian for, A21 '), also known as the Autostrada dei Vini is an Italian highway in the northwest of the country that runs from Turin to Brescia. It is 238 km long and toll road in its entire length. The motorway is in the Italian regions of Piedmont, Lombardy and Emilia -Romagna.

Course

The A21 crosses from west to east running large parts of the broad fertile Po Valley and connects on its way that economic centers Turin, Alessandria, Piacenza and Brescia. It has a minimum of four lanes throughout.

The A21 begins in Turin, the capital of the Italian region Piedmont, where it branches off from the ring road di Torino. Eastwards it leads first past Villanova d' Asti and Asti. Here branches off to the south from the A33 to Cuneo. Further east, a leader, along It Tanaro river, they reached Alessandria, where it intersects with the A26, which leads to Genoa and Vercelli. To the east of Alessandria it crosses the Tanaro and intersects with the A7. Now it changes its course slightly to the northeast and reaches the Lombardy region. Here she runs past the towns of Voghera and Broni near the wine region Po at Pavese.

In the village of Castel San Giovanni it reaches the Emilia -Romagna and crossed the Po, which also forms the border region. Then she takes you past the town of Piacenza, where a connection with the A1 is. In Caorso the A21dir branches off, which leads to Fiorenzuola d' Adda. In Cremona the highway reenters Lombardy and crossed northward leading the Po, the Oglio and Mella. In Brescia, they reached its end point and opens into the A4.

Name

The A21 motorway carries, as for many Italian motorways, also one more name: Autostrada dei Vini. This comes from the fact that it passes in its course in many wine-growing areas, such as Po at Pavese.

Management

Between Turin and Piacenza motorway is under management of SATAP SpA ( Società Autostrada Torino - Alessandria - Piacenza SpA). The section between Piacenza and the end of the motorway to Brescia manages the motorway company Autostrade Centropadane.

History

The motorway section between Turin and Piacenza was initiated by the Province of Turin, who in 1960 founded the SATAP. The construction work for this section began in 1963 and lasted for 5 years. Between 1968 and 1969 the first sections were gradually released. The connection to the A1 was opened in 1972, connecting with the A7 Genoa -Milan 1987. The total cost amounted to approximately 130 billion lire, equivalent to approximately 200 million per kilometer built.

On 31 May 1973, the section between Turin and Piacenza has been fully completed and handed over to the traffic section of Piacenza to Brescia followed on 11 November 1971.
