The Autostrada A5 (Italian for, A5 '), also Autostrada della Valle d' Aosta ( it.) and Autoroute de la Vallée d' Aosta (French ) (German: Highway of the Aosta Valley ) called, is an Italian motorway in extreme north-west of the country, from Turin ( Piedmont) leading up to France. The Mont Blanc tunnel here forms the border between the two states.

The A5 is 140 km long, four-lane, fully toll road and was founded in 1961 and opened to traffic.

Course

Turin - Quincinetto (Piedmont)

The third and final section leads from Aosta to the French border. It is operated by the RAV - SpA Raccordo Autostradale Valle d' Aosta Spa, a member of Gruppo Autostrade per l' Italia. The last exit on Italian soil is Courmayeur. Traforo del Monte Bianco ( Mont Blanc Tunnel ), which has its own name - then the tunnel section T1 starts. On the French side there is the national road 205 to highway 40 towards Geneva and the Rhone Valley.

History

The route Turin - Ivrea - Quincinetto was opened in May 1961, after three years of work that began in February 1958.

  • Châtillon - Nus, July 9, 1969
  • Nus - Aosta Est / Aosta est, May 27, 1970.

In 1983, the company was R.A.V. - Raccordo Autostradale Valle d' Aosta SpA established to plan the section between Aosta and Mont Blanc Tunnel, build and manage. This section was opened in the following stages:

  • Aosta Ovest / Aosta ouest - Morgex, 26 May 1994
  • Morgex - Courmayeur, June 29, 2001
  • Courmayeur - Entrèves, 2007

Regional importance

The A5 has in two ways on a great importance. Firstly, it facilitates access to the ski resorts of the French-Italian Alps, on the other hand it favors the movement of goods between the two neighboring countries.

Toll
