The Autostrada A6 ( for, motorway A6 Italian '), and La Verde Mare (it. for, highway of the green sea ') called, is an Italian highway and leads in the northwest of the country from Turin to Savona. It connects the capital of Piedmont to the south of the region, particularly the province of Cuneo and the Italian Riviera.

It is 131 km long, four lanes except for a short six-lane section near Turin and in full toll.

History

The A6 was built in several sections and opened:

  • Ceva - Savona ( Savona FR ) January 27, 1960
  • Fossano - Ceva September 28, 1965
  • La Rotta - Marene May 27, 1970
  • Torino - La Rotta August 13, 1971
  • Rivere - Monte Calla November 6, 2000

In 1971 was excluded public transport between the junction Carmagnola and the motel Rio Colore -West, because the route of Fiat was used as a test track for high velocity.

Course

The A6 can be divided into two sections, down in the shallower part of the western Po Valley and the mountainous part to Savona to the Mediterranean.

Turin - Cuneo ( Piedmont)

The A6 starts south of Turin on the ring road South and into fairly straight course past Carmagnola to the east of Cuneo. She crosses the newly built A33 for Marene that can be used as a bypass for Turin towards A21 Piacenza / Brescia, and leads another arm of the A33 in the direction of Cuneo.

Cuneo - Savona ( Piedmont / Liguria)

Immediately after the exit Cuneo starts the mountainous part of the A6. First, it goes to Ceva in the valley of the Tanaro parallel to the SS28. After Ceva shares the road several times. It transcends the Colle di Cadibona (435 m) and thus also the watershed between the Ligurian Apennines and the Po Valley. The northbound carriageway leads to Savona, the southern to Turin. The exit Millesimo is approachable only from the roadway in the direction of Turin, so that two links were built to the other lane. In numerous serpentines, then further down to Savona, where the A6 meets the A10.

Regional importance

The A6 is of particular importance for the western part of Piedmont around the towns of Cuneo, Bra, Fossano and Mondovi, as well as the access to the ski resorts of the Alpes Maritimes. In national transport makes them particularly fast route between Turin and Genoa.
